This is a great high-quality smoker for the price you pay. My husband got one of these when he was a teenager and used it to smoke fish (mostly trout and salmon) he would catch. It lasted him about 10 years, and actually probably would have lasted us longer but we moved and lost the cord somewhere in the move. We decided instead of buying a new cord off the website just to get a new smoker (it would have been $20 for the cord, we had to buy new trays, and we weren't sure how long the smoker would last, so we just decided to get a new one). As always, this little smoker did a great job! We primarily use it to smoke salmon (they also include a great brine recipe for salmon). I love that it includes everything you need to get started (chips, brine, etc). We smoked about 100 lbs of fresh Idaho salmon this year (in multiple batches).

We have never tried to make jerky or smoke anything other than fish, so we can't comment there. Just keep in mind that this is a smoker, not a cooker.

Great smoker!! Great price! No complaints.

We've been doing the Weber kettle "thing" for decades, including turkeys as large as 25 pounds. They are really great--we are on our third one. But I've thought about getting a true smoker for years, especially for the landlocked salmon that inhabit the lake where we have a little cabin. Finally decided to make the purchase.

The Little Chief arrived earlier this week and, even though the temp was in the teens, I just had to try it out. My first efforts were cheddar cheese and almonds. Simply amazing!

Others have commented on the flimsy construction. I've seen these smokers before, so wasn't surprised by the light weight. It's aluminum, after all. I was surprised, though, that the tray of wood chips only smoked for 45 minutes or so. Given the wonderful result with the cheese, I guess that's long enough. However, somehow I expected it to last for several hours before needing to fill it again.

Can't wait to try more things. I think a pork loin is next. And, of course, those salmon when summer finally arrives.
